I am not going to bad mouth anybody because there is too much of that going around.

I will say exactly what is going on with DMF though and I will not insult anybody.

Anybody with the team knows this is the truth.

- HB tried out for DMF and was cut on the second day of tryouts.

- DMF coaches called a couple teams to try to find a spot for HB but were not successful.

- HB dad got the DMF registration link from someone on the team and filled it out, or it was sent to him accidentally. Either way he got the link but already knew his kid had been cut.

- DMF did not process his registration because he was cut and they told him this.

- HB parents showed up at DMF offices with HB and made a huge scene saying they think HB should be on the team. The kid was crying his eyes out and parents were yelling.

- DMF stood by their guns and said he was cut and they can't force their way on to a team.

- HB parents took it to the league and said they would take legal action to argue the registration should have been processed and tryouts not fair.

- The league said all involved hold off right now but once the season starts DMF has the right to release HB so that is what will happen.

- Until then DMF is carrying 9 forwards 7 defence 2 goalies

- The D parents are very upset about this.

I am not taking sides but those are the #facts and anybody was has real knowledge of this situation knows this.

I do not know who is bad mouthing HB or LE or RE but someone is really trying to stir the pot and needs to STOP.
They are torturing their own kid. Sad.

That is not an insult to the other goalies out there because they aren’t top 4! Things can change every year but that’s how it is for now and has been for a while.
Average NHL goalie height is 6 foot 3. So XZ might make it somewhere after u16. The rest might be the top goalies in the ASHL. Some might end up in jail for not allowed traficking
XZ is the only goalie in the loop over 5 feet tall! Nobody else is even over 4’10
Whitby kid who went to MM is over 5 feet but he and XZ are the only two. Whitby kid is also 170 pounds
XZ dad is a soft 6’7”

You can only dress 17 players. Is DMF going to cut HB? Rotate healthy scratch? Thought they only had 8 fwrds with 7 D. DMF should be ashamed of the way they handled this situation.

Next year open borders, G allows team to have more players now. you can find it out from rule book.
I thought DMF got 8D including HB and have to convert 1 D to play F. still run 9+7

UPDATE!! In true shitty hockey politics fashion… my son did not make a team that a teammate of his made without even trying out. And this is not a kid who was scouted or who is some big superstar… another parent put in a word for him and they took him without ever having laid eyes on him. 🤦‍♀️

I'm sure I'm not the only one frustrated with the sham that is GTHL "tryouts". As I write, a group of 13 year olds is "trying out" for a team that is already full. My kid knows this, but not all do. Year after year, this entire process is so lacking in integrity it's mind-boggling. Is there anyone in the media wanting a good story?! GTHL and Hockey Canada have to do better. (And before anyone comes at me, yes... I know this is how it's always been. Please don't tell me that I should know this is "part of hockey" and it's what I've signed up for. I am perhaps naively hoping for a system shift.)

I dont understand this post or ones like it. Your son didnt make the team because the coach didtn pick him. That is hard to accept, but that is the situation. I dont understand this notion of "going to the tryout". My son made a team this year without going to any "tryouts" but he has played against these kids for 5 years and the coach has seen him play dozens of times. If you need me to pay my 40$ and show up to Westwood on a Tuesday night to skate around a cone and shoot into an empty net... ok sure... but what's the point. There is nothing inherently wrong with the GTHL system for picking kids. What is wrong is when $$$ gets involved or when parents take over teams or when coaches are using the team for personal gain. All of that is wrong and needs to be stopped. Having scheduled tryouts does not matter.

If DMF even kept 7 D that will anger other D families and they won’t come back the next year. HB is clearly the 8th D on that team it’s not worth risking another good player leave to keep HB in my view. Let his parents threaten to sue it’s ridiculous and the league has seen it all before. I heard the team will release him and has the leagues approval just letting it simmer down so there’s no more confrontations.

What did Dmf do wrong? Sure sounds like the league is involved and it sides with the organisation.
This is an important precedent. If DMF did not stand their ground and HB stayed the whole season then next spring you’ll see multiple unathletic nerds with money trying to bully their way onto teams. It’s classless and undignified and driven by parents ego.
