Kingston U12 beats teams from the G all the time, and they beat up on the lower end G AAA teams worse than 4-1. The OMHA is about to get open borders, playing field is officially levelled. https://greaterkingstonhockey.com/Teams ... &Year=2024Guest wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 3:26 pmGTHL AA U12 champions Mississauga Beast beat U12 Kingston 4-1 in exhibition in Sept. True but only for the AA East loop. AA west is watered down with too many teams. Pretty much holds for all age groups.
On the other hand a reason to stay with AAA Omha is to get visibility at AAA tournaments. Assuming your kid is an impact maker he will stand out and coaches will call. But those same coaches won’t be watching AA games.
If you believe that GTHL AA is more competitive than OMHA AAA then long run development is potentially better in GTHL. Obviously would depend on factors like coaching etc. If you live on the outskirts of Toronto I'd get in the G. It's better.
Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?

Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
Play AAA OMHA hands down! It’s not even close. Play at the higher level and you will develop more than playing AA. GTHL AA is not even close to OMHA AAA
Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
Agree, my kid has played in both leagues and Omha AAA is way better hockey than any G AA leagueGuest wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 7:42 pm Play AAA OMHA hands down! It’s not even close. Play at the higher level and you will develop more than playing AA. GTHL AA is not even close to OMHA AAA
Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
GTHL is far superior. OMHA is considered a joke. I mean if you live within those boundaries then you have no choice unless you love driving all over the place.
Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
OMHA AAA is way better quality than GTHL AA as far as strength of teams and it is not even close.
This is easily proven. Check the My Hockey Rankings ratings for GTHL AA teams in any age group and compare the ratings to OMHA AAA teams ratings.
Yes, the ratings are valid for comparing AAA to AA.
Some OMHA AA teams are even better than all GTHL teams. U12 AA #1 team is Whitby. U13 AA highest rated team from OMHA and GTHL is Burlington.

Don’t drink the Kool-Aid, GTHL is above and beyond better.
Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
So you really think GTHL AA is better hockey than OMHA AAA? Comparing both AAA leagues is a different story but cmon man. Go look at the scores at the Barrie U11 tournament recently.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:07 pm GTHL is far superior. OMHA is considered a joke. Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
Anyone who says GTHL AA is better than OMHA AAA is delusional. Even the bottom 4 gthl AAA teams are weaker than the top OMHA AAA teams across pretty much every age group. Take a look at MHR - every age has a few ghtl AAA teams in the bottom 10 of the entire province.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:07 pm GTHL is far superior. OMHA is considered a joke. For the OP - just upgrade to a better OMHA AAA team if your current team is very weak.
And regarding driving all over - better than sitting in hours of traffic in toronto. And the OP doesnt live in toronto, so to play gthl theyll be driving even more.
Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
If your child has a goal of playing gthl AAA eventually - switching to gthl AA will not help at all. Unless your kids is dominating and scoing 50+ goals a season. Gthl isnt interesting in its AA teams and doesn use them as feeder teams to their AAA. Stay in omha AAA and maybe move to a nearby top team if you are having problems in your current centre.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 6:47 pm As the title says, in your opinion is it better to play AAA in the OMHA or AA in the GTHL at the U10/U11/U12 age groups? Most important things to us are qualified coaches who have good development plans, competitive games and a good team environment. My child currently plays AAA in a smaller OMHA centre but we are considering moving to the GTHL next season, where I anticipate he will be AA calibre. Any input would be appreciated.
Re: Play AAA in OMHA or AA in GTHL?
Stay in AAA OMHA if a good AAA centre like Barrie or YSE. My son plays GTHL AA and I know what OMHA AAA is like, don't let someone tell you that AA teams will beat AAA teams in the OMHA unless it's a bottom OMHA AAA teamGuest wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 7:14 pmI guess the reading comprehension in the G isn't that great.
