Do any Teams still go to games by Bus?

Post by Guest »

This is mainly for Omha and Alliance teams I guess. When I was young we met at our home rink and bussed (school bus)as a team to away games. It was great all the bags loaded in back then team all together and parents at front

So any Minor teams do this still?

I am not aware if any teams still do it.

For the money they charge, a bus should be arranged for games that are 45+ mins away.

And some parents would have the mini 1.5oz bottles… kids would ask what they were… response… extra spark plugs for the bus!

We looked into it last year for our away games (2+ hr drives) and even the yellow bus was way to expensive. It was significantly cheaper to have 6 parents drive all the kids and split the fuel costs

Coach buses are pretty cheap. If you can get most of the team to travel by bus, worth it. Cheaper than gas bills.

Fairly common still in all provinces that don't start with an O.

Only rich teams do this, like TT. They don’t use school buses though, more so the big chartered buses. It’s a good idea.

Not to be a Debby downer, this is part of my job I have in Contingency planning.

Its actually really stupid to have an entire team travel together. Bus issues, car accidents, bus not showing up, traffic, etc They impact the entire team, instead of a handful of people.

So, if the team playing "matters" then you are much better splitting up into individual cars and having 2 or 3 kids in a vehicle instead of everyone in one vehicle.

Its just minor hockey, so if they game doesn't get played, so be it. But, if it were to matter, then spreading out matters.

I get what you’re saying, but I think taking the bus as a team has its perks. Sure, it might not make sense in the GTA where everything is close, but for teams traveling further out or heading to tournaments, it can be super beneficial. Plus, it’s not like minor hockey teams are the only ones doing it, university teams and OHL teams travel by bus all the time without major issues. Worrying about a bus breaking down or traffic seems like overthinking to me. Honestly, it’s part of the experience too, and it’s nice for the team to travel together.
