Tiering Local League / House League
Tiering Local League / House League
So we are slowly abolishing the rep levels, we call everyone B now( C and D are gone) but they just run C and D as tiers of B (B Tier 1/2/3 OMHA finals)
Leagues are now tiering Local League, bringing MORE tiers into hockey. Advanced hockey league ran this season (https://guelphminorhockey.com/Pages/460 ... d_League_/ ) And I'm hearing Alliance (Kit/Wat) and WOAA are also implementing tiered LL systems as well (possibly others).
So now we will have AAA/AA/A/B(Tier 1/2/3)/BB/MD/LL Tier 1/2/3/Select/HL.
WTF are we doing .. We need less tiers and more teams in each tier. Travel is getting out of hand with all the merged centers as it is, leagues of 6 teams with 2 hour drives between centers to just get blown out 10-0 anyway.

It used to be your City or centre had 1 rep team depending on population size it was AAA, AA, or A. The rest of the kids that didn’t make it played HL. But some parents and orgs didn’t like that and wanted to give little Johnny a rep experience and came up with this watered down nonsense. Now they have HL kids playing all over the place and call it Select or Local league etc.

Hamilton was trying to go the Tiered HL route and it got voted down.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:40 pm So we are slowly abolishing the rep levels, we call everyone B now( C and D are gone) but they just run C and D as tiers of B (B Tier 1/2/3 OMHA finals)

Re: Tiering Local League / House League
Top LL teams are already better then those B Tier3 teams. There is really no need for the tiers to exist, but uneducated perception is the higher tier is better players.
I watched a U10 kid play U11 rep, even made it OMHA finals. In his U11 year he got cut from the U11 rep team (Go ahead, try to tell me that's not politics..) and he did well in LL, but his parents were shocked how competitive it still was for him. He made the U13 rep team the next year (as a U12.. again tell me there's no politics involved here) and he quit halfway through the season to go back to LL, he said it was more fun.
WOW, kids stay in hockey when having FUN, WTF!? lmao!
Remove the tiers and let kids play for fun!

It's still going to happen because of pressure from neighboring centers and leagues forcing their hand.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:24 pmHamilton was trying to go the Tiered HL route and it got voted down.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:40 pm So we are slowly abolishing the rep levels, we call everyone B now( C and D are gone) but they just run C and D as tiers of B (B Tier 1/2/3 OMHA finals)

When it happens we are walking. Taking my kid to play in the GTHL

That's the spirit, run away and don't raise your voice for change.
Re: Tiering Local League / House League
With declining numbers in Hamilton, we can't sustain the 6 house league associations within Hamilton. The hockey council will be forced to make 1 association across the city which could then be tiered.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:38 pmIt's still going to happen because of pressure from neighboring centers and leagues forcing their hand.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:24 pmHamilton was trying to go the Tiered HL route and it got voted down.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 12:40 pm So we are slowly abolishing the rep levels, we call everyone B now( C and D are gone) but they just run C and D as tiers of B (B Tier 1/2/3 OMHA finals)

The other issue is that the rep associations have too many teams. Many of the kids would be better suited playing in a Tiered HL than losing every game 7-2 at BB.
The goal is to have kids slotted properly at the right level but with more teams and tiers created at the rep level, all of the levels suffer from inferior talent.
