I run a klevr program in the gta and was approached by a current coach with the Hamilton Ironmen 2018 program toting how good his team is and how dominant they have been all season. I took the time this past weekend to catch two of their games as our team was in the same division at the same arena. As it turns out, his 2018 team has at least 6 2017 skaters and I believe a 2017 goalie. Further to that, the coach ran his top line nearly 70% of the two games I watched. Our organization has established feeding our local aaa centre and he came to me boasting that he’s trying to build a core group for his future TRW coaching role he lined up. I’d steer clear of coaches like this as it isn’t what this league is about.
Rolling one line 70% of the games so you can win and brag leaves the balance of your team behind
It’s a sad state of affairs imo.
The head coach’s kid is a forward and the assistant coach’s kid is a defence-man, both had double the playing time than the other kids in their respective positions. Klevr is supposed to be a developmental league, and anyone who was on that team that weren’t coaches kids suffered greatly with lack of ice Time because they wanted a good record.
Re: Klevr
The team (you probably coached or own) played the same kids 70+ percent of the time, game after game. 73,88,11,17.Great players, yes. But any kid and family in any league below a U10 U11 AA or AAA level should not be paying thousands of dollars to have their kids short shifted and sitting on a bench for a meaningless record. Hats off to the Ironmen, beating teams with over agers playing the same handful of players over and over. Any coach/organization at this age should be about 1 thing. Developing hockey players and promoting fun.
