*APPLAUSE* Well said and fkn bang on! Drinking buddies at the corner pub running the circus, how do you think this will go?Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:48 amYes that does happen sometimes. What happens more though, is a coach who runs horrible practices, has favorites, doesn't communicate with parents, has no long term plan, spends our money without a care, can't connect with players, brings on friends, or other parents who also have self interest to the coaching staff, etc. Coaches are fare too often given free reign and want zero accountability and this goes to their heads. They are too often, not that educated, and OK hockey players. Or they can be long time coaches who think their sh!t doesn't stink. Many times they only reason they keep their job is because they're part of a closed center. Give parents a choice and watch these inept people drop like flies.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 8:32 am You are not wrong. The parents lack accountability and that is passed on to the offspring. It is never, "my son had a poor game" it is always, he had no help, the coach did not put him out there in key situations, Johnny won't pass to him, that one dad is 100% paying the coach for ice time etc.

It's the worse gig known to man kind, a hockey coach! Why, because it doesn't matter who you appoint to coach - Karen's will always find a fault. Parents never come to practices, if they do - cut their kid, especially the moms. If they are at practice video taping, automatic cut. When they come to the games they are watching ONE kid, not 15-17. It doesn't matter the game plan, what's working or not working as a team, what you're teaching them in practice - there's always fault and blame, even greater when you lose. It's a thankless position as a hockey coach, most coaches do a lot of good and put the work in. Good coaches know their weakness and seek help where needed. Others and most are there for all the wrong reasons. The problem is some asshole parents and asshole wannabe coaches who think they can do better ruin it for the good ones. The assholes typically run the show and want the control, just lack the self awareness and skill to do a good job. And the good ones don't need this BS in their life and walk away. The best you can do is support your good coaches, don't criticize. The bad ones, leave or go to war with them and the mickey mouse association they live in.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:49 amThey want volunteer non-parent coaches, which limits the pool of potential candidates;Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 8:32 am You are not wrong. They could have an older coach, who's financially established or even semi-retired and in need of a hobby because his kids have grown. The problem is that an older coach wouldn't be equipped or be willing to adapt to the the way todays kids need to be a coddled.
Then they could have a younger coach, who doesn't have kids yet, and has no career ambition outside hockey. Although he would have zero experience when it comes to raising kids and couldn't be empathetic toward the challenges of balancing family life, he would likely have some significant hockey experience but would lack education and training on how to communicate with todays youth. This coaches training would come from his hockey culture which, according to the media, is bigoted and misogynistic. Most likely not the communicator these parents are looking for and would expect a heft salary because he has no other source of income.
They could have a younger coach, who doesn't have kids yet, who is educated and trained on how to "communicate" with todays youth. He would most likely have less hockey experience, but would have an in-depth understanding about importance of inclusivity and gender politics. However, this coach would be starting a career elsewhere and be focussing on his personal life rather than the team. Complaints would definitely be handled by the appointed parent team manager, whose kid is terrible but the org gave them the team and he hired the coach. The coach would also expect a hefty as he's only coaching to supplement his income as he is trying to boost his financial situation.
Then there's a middle-aged coach who is educated and trained, well established in their career and financially stable. This coach would have excellent communication skills, to the degree that they hold a leadership role in their company and their life experience includes working through the challenges of family life. These coaches have kids who want to play hockey, so they are prepared to be at the rink for every practice and every game, at no cost to the team. However...their kid would be on the team, therefore he is automatically out of the running.

I don't but simply put, it's my money and I should be able to pay and try/play where I chose. Bigger point, watch the associations full of prejudice an bias fold like a practice plan on a bar napkin. Wouldn't it be nice to see the OHF house of cards collapse like the shit show it is.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:51 amYou want to shift the topic to "borders"?Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:48 amYes that does happen sometimes. No need, just pointing out the reality of why SO MANY horrible coaches get away with no accountability. This appears to have struck a nerve. That usually happens to entitled coaches getting called out on the truth. ahahahahahahahaGuest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:51 amYou want to shift the topic to "borders"?Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:48 amYes that does happen sometimes. Coaches hold kids accountable...which parents interpret as "poor communication" and "inability to teach"...when the reality is that the kid doesn't listen because he doensn't have listen in school or at home and thanks to his parents he doesn't understand the concept of merit based reward nor consequences based on his actions.
Coaches are also unorganized, lack planning, don't take input from anyone and are know it alls, who are stuck in the 80's .
Coaches amd accountability should never be in the same sentence
Far too many parents focus on preparing the road for their kids, rather than preparing their kids for the road.
Thanks to todays failed parenting, 8 out 10 kids who play any team sport today don’t have the mental and emotional fortitude nor sport IQ necessary to be coached.
Typical of JT supporters.
Put yourself out there and give parents a choice so they can play for you, in your self absorbed low level hockey program, or leave freely-no strings. Coaches like you need protection and don't want people to have choice. You're weak, afraid and need administrative protection. Try earning your way for once and stand on your own. Have some dignity. You don't have the coping skills or resiliency to deal with being held accountable. That requires hard work and integrity. You have neither.

You can choose to take your money and sign your kid up for non-sanctioned hockey, where there are no borders.
But you choose to take your money and play sanctioned hockey, knowing that there are borders, and then complain about it.
FYI - there are no borders in the G and almost every coach has a few people in the loop who have an axe to grind with them. But despite all the chirping and complaint and accusations about how terrible the coaches are in the G...they aren't going anywhere. What ends up happening is that the chronic complainers end up with a collection of different coloured helmets and hockey bags in their garage. Eventually they become outcasts and the migrate to the O.

If the coach is stuck in the 80's he's far from "fragile"... but if he were "fragile", he would be a perfect candidate to connect with your delicate and entitled kid.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 12:44 pmCoaches these days are so fragile and incompetent.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 11:20 amIt's the worse gig known to man kind, a hockey coach! If thats how "accountability" works...then somebody needs to hold you accountable for raising a lazy, selfish brat who's making Minor Atom mistakes in Bantam.
