If a kid is being asked to pay $30K for D3, here are the factors: Parents make too much to get more, player is not wanted that badly, or is not strong academically. No one is forcing you to go. As for travel, tons of D3s are within 5-6 hour drive of Ottawa. EHL number was 164 I just found their site (wasn't too hard). Yeah some D1's suck academically too. You do your homework.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:08 amSo you have non8dea how many players get D3 commits!? 120, over 160, let's just throw out any number and have people accept it.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 12:04 amActually the number was over 160. EHL is geared to 19-20 year olds wanting to play college hockey and has a good history of league management. D3 hockey has some amazing programs (the top 10-15 could beat the lower end D1s). The quality of the hockey is very good and getting better. I don't think people realize how hard D1 is to get into for Canadians. The US is cranking out players in at an insane pace. I am hearing more kids looking at ACHA Div 1 (also known as club hockey). Whether or expensive or not depends. I know if a player has a 3.5+ GPA, there is more aid (merit) money. Point being, lots of options for kids and don't think they are too expensive. Parents and kids need to realize there are many junior options.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:51 pmNumerous??? Div 3 hockey, do you think this offers value and is worth the expense?
My friend's son got a D3 offer. School is $45 K US a year. They gave them 15$k. $30 K US, then health insurance, and other expenses and it's about $42K Cdn a year. Hockwy is ok at best and school is a big unknown. Then you add in travel to get home twice a year, sure bud that's worth it.
Even D1 schools in the US, some are very low quality academically.

Apparently, NAHA camps start today. Heard about it via a word of mouth. How crazy is that! And the kicker is...no one knows what the cost will be or aren't saying.

Re: Ottawa U18 2022/23 Season
I think one of the Montreal ones. Kind of related. How can an owner of a HC sanctioned league, funnel players into a new non-sanctioned league? And then there is Pembroke which dropped Junior B but, has a North American prep league thing going. I guess the shoe will drop soon as cuts are coming down from the CCHL.
Re: Ottawa U18 2022/23 Season
D3's don't offer athletic scholarships. The hockey isn't good. You're going to overpay, for bad hockey and questionable schooling.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:59 amIf a kid is being asked to pay $30K for D3, here are the factors: Parents make too much to get more, player is not wanted that badly, or is not strong academically. D3s offer financial aid and merit based. The hockey is very good. Maybe go to a game before commenting. And schooling/ Some of the top D3 programs are considered mini-Ivys and you need over 1300 on SAT to attend.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 10:53 amD3's don't offer athletic scholarships. You mean no name players, playing in a no name league. check the stats for these players and where they played. NO quality there. D3 schools aren't offering much to play hockey there. $30 K Canadian is low for the cost to go D3, and it's nowhere close to being worth it.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:59 amIf a kid is being asked to pay $30K for D3, here are the factors: Parents make too much to get more, player is not wanted that badly, or is not strong academically. Bowdoin, Amherst, Hamilton, Skidmore, Colby....etc... Your ignorance is truly showing. They won't offer much to a kid with 2 GPA. and you really think D1 are giving full scholarships? Some, not many are quality, and not better than Canadian universities.
It will cost you FAR more to play Crap hockey and go to an unknown school getting low quality schooling
Go for it!

What about them? Low caliber hockey at a high cost.
NOTHING about it makes any sense.
go for it champ! Tell us all about the quality hockey there!!
LOL, local kid from EHL did very well there, couldn't crack a JrA line up here. NOt even close
A friend's kid going to a D3 school and they're laughing at the education and very low caliber of play for hockey. He's got more money and despite being able to pay for much more, this is the ONLY level remotely interested in his son for hockey. So he's paying but laughing at the quality!
Keep it up champ!! I love it
