Why must mediocre (at best) parents tire their kids out by playing hockey every single weekend and travelling to do so chasing that dream for them ? It blows my mind parents are blind to the fact their kids need less ice and not more. Some kids haven’t had a break since 5 years old and the money out hasn’t been showing the reward.
One of my kids is now playing Jr A hockey. He was drafted and fighting to make the cut with his OHL team.
He played Summer hockey just like the kids you mentioned with a few other sports but hockey was always the main focus.
I can tell you this, I can’t think of many drafted kids that did not play spring/summer hockey. It was a year round sport for them with maybe 4 weeks off.
The sport has changed, get use to it.
