What kind of nonsense is the above. I can understand any parent doing this needs parenting 101 and probably 3-4 kids max in each age group will make the NHl out of Ontario but let these parents do what they want. Why would you waste your time writing a 5 paragraph essay on this.

This site has hit an all time low. From people obsessed on hating the Ohp lady to live reports during spring hockey games we have now added Google map times from city to city. What the F is wrong with ppl. Seriously. Mind your business worry about your kid and their team.

This site makes be question the character of everyone in the rink. How everyone can pretend like this site doesn’t exist and how they can have a conversation with someone they just bashed on line as a guest user.

I don’t even know if I can trust my kid to have a sleepover at a teammate’s house as we don’t know who the messed up guest users that are making such statements online.

For a sport that is supposed to be small community. You guys have out done yourself.

What a stupid comment.

of course people care, not because people are worried about other teams being better than theirs and crying about it, like in your simple mind.
Its because a rational person can see a stupid decision someone is making, and can make simple commentary on it.

Its 9yo hockey dude.

Think about this situation: Parent lives in Barrie, ON works 30 minutes from home.

The kid gets up in the morning at 6:30am, goes to school on a Monday morning, and then finishes their day around 3pm. Takes the bus home 30min and gets there around 3:30pm-4:00pm. Practice that night is at 5:30pm. Mom or dad gets home at 4:30pm, picks up their kid and drives to Westwood arena. Google tells me Barrie, ON to Westwood arena, leaving your house at 430pm will take you anywhere from an hour and 10min to an hour and 30min. Putting your arrival at 5:30pm (just in time for practice, but late by the time you get ready) or 6:00pm, which is 30 minutes late for practice. Lets assume you just barely made it and you are now there for your 1.5 hour practice. Finishing at 7pm or more realistically 7:15pm by the time you actually leave the building.
Its 7:15pm, your kid hasn't had a real dinner, unless you've meal prepped or they ate snacks in the car. You need to drive about 55min home, as there isn't a lot of traffic any more at this point. Maybe you stop at McDonalds to go through the drive through to feed your little professional athlete somewhere along the way. Bringing your arrival at home 8:30pm, at best. Maybe 9 or 9:30pm if you had a 6pm or 6:30pm practice instead.

Your little professional athlete has been awake now from 6:30am to at the very least 9-930pm by the time they shower, brush their teeth, maybe have a quick snack, lay down and go to sleep.

Tuesday morning comes, and you've got dryland for an hour at Westwood....

Wednesday is an off day

Thursday you have another practice at westwood....

Friday you have a game at Paramount....

Saturday morning you have Practice at Westwood....

Sunday you have the day off from team activities.....

4-5 days a week, your kid will be away from home from 7am - 9:00pm between school, the car, and Hockey.

You will do this from late August until March. 30+ weeks, that's 12.5hrs minimum a week, likely more, and accumulative of 375hrs for the season.

You can MORE THAN HALF this, by playing on a team about 30min from home. And in this exact scenario, probably 15min from home if you live in Barrie.

Lets not forget your costs....

$5,500 vs $11,000
huge amounts of gas
wear and tear on your vehicle
fast food
wasted groceries.

and then MOST importantly, your childs mental health...

How much do you think your kid is going to love hockey a year, or two from now when he never sees his friends from school and literally doesn't do anything BUT hockey for the majority of the year.

When has your kid done his home work? Does he have any other interests? God forbid your job requires you to stay late from time to time.

So, yeah, do I CARE about your decision? No, not really. I kinda feel bad for your kid. But I don't care.
but I will 100% tell you its STUPID. Its a F'N STUPID decision you dumb twat.
This might be the most bonkers post on here. And that includes the comments from the mentally disturbed guy that that won’t stop chirping about the same teams over and over. Well done

Batman, you might have too much time on your hands. Wasting your time commenting on other people's stupid decisions is also a stupid decision.

Yes, Parents just choose what is the best for your own kids. People have different view and target. Some parents may target on Brick, OHL, NHL. Some are just for extra activities outside school. It is a family choice

They lost a couple kids down to YSE because they are from Newmarket/Aurora but the team would still have been phenomenal when you add in a couple T2 cobras and kids from the surrounding area MD.

But instead they choose to drive down to Toronto 4 or 5 times a week in traffic to play on the Young Nats or some other G team. Its literally insane. There are only going to be 4 or 5 good G teams. So its not like they are going to be playing better competition on average. It would have been the same in OMHA.

WW
Quinte
YSE
APR

Are all going to be pretty dang good.

BJC
Petb
King
COW

are all going to be solid.

MW
NCP
NSW

are going to be dog shit.

Do they genuinely believe the development is going to be soo much beter in the GTHL when you are:

- Still playing in a league where 66% of games will be blow outs
- paying literally twice the cost
- Driving 1.5 hours on average in traffic both ways 4-5 days a week
- dealing with Toronto people, shitty toronto rinks, and some of the most cut-throat/toxic humans in the world?

Dumb, dumb, dumb...
ya you want to know why cobras losts majority of their top kids and no one wants to stay in barrie? cause of the crazy owner and coach woody wood pecker RW!! i would drive 4 hours for hockey to stay the F away from him and Barrie! hes a sandbagging, controlling, gambling, toxic, child verbal abusing coach and should stay far far far away from 6-9 year olds!!!!

you burned too many bridges bro. you are complete toxic bro

Smart, smart, smart...
But, R yan W ood doesn't have the team?

that doesn't make any sense. Plus there are 4 teams you need to drive past before you get to Toronto.

Agreed with the above poster. YK was the best team in the province this past season and they significantly upgraded their lineup for spring. They added the top kid from the US plus a lot of players that played a year up. They themselves know that even the top winter team can not compete in these spring tournaments. Spring is spring and winter is a completely different game. Spring hockey is short lived. Enjoy it while it is here for the next month.
