I can’t agree with you. A child’s development depends largely on their coaches. You can’t just give a kid a bucket of pucks and an empty sheet of ice and expect them to become a star. Children need someone to teach them everything from the very basics to more advanced things. Everything they learn, they learn from their coaches. That’s why it’s so important to find the right one—someone not only knowledgeable but also able to communicate effectively and earn the child’s respect. If a coach is missing practices and games, struggles with self-control, or lacks confidence, then no matter how much they know, the kids won’t respect them or follow their lead.
From the child’s side, all that’s required is the ability to understand, to learn, and the desire to master new skills. Parents, on the other hand, are responsible for ensuring proper nutrition, checking whether their child is getting enough vitamins from food and supplements, and making sure they get the right amount of sleep for their age and aren’t becoming overly anxious.
If all three pieces come together—coaching, child’s effort, and parental support—then there’s a real chance that something truly good may come of it.

Finally some honesty and not bitter hate. I would only worry about one team , the previous posts were very accurate. Enjoy the season and make the most of it. Pulling him out now would only put him in a tough situation finding a new home WM, FT and MNS are all great teams for a first year in AA. Good luck. And thanks to the chat for some actual honest input instead of pointless hate.

We’re new to all the politics I just want to make sure my son is on a team with good coaching and good parents Everything I am reading is terrifying me. I know you can’t really believe much on this forum but any honest input or advice would be very much appreciated. We were sold the pathway to AAA with the best coaches for development dream. I'll try to give an honest review. There are three bottom-level teams in the league: ST, FT, and WML. There’s also a tiny chance your child went to MNS, so I’ll include a few words about them just in case.

If you’re with MNS, there’s no reason to worry—enjoy your season. It’s a good team with good coaches, and overall, there's nothing to be concerned about.

WML is, on paper, the weakest team in the loop. Not all of their players are strong, but the coach is solid and genuinely focused on teaching kids how to play hockey. A family friend of ours was looking for a team in the west, had offers from 3–4 clubs, and ultimately chose WML despite their record. The kids are respectful, and the parents are decent too—they really deserve better results.

FT is more of a mixed bag. It’s not a particularly strong team; the parents can be a bit noisy, though not excessively so, and the players are average overall. They’re the second-worst team in the standings for a reason, but there may still be some potential for improvement. It’s a team without a distinctive identity—neither in a good nor bad sense.

ST is a team to be cautious about. They make a good first impression, but the more you get to know them, the more that impression fades. I won’t go into detail about the negatives. Few positives: their practices are actually quite solid, and one of the assistant coaches is very capable. The new head coach, while not outstanding, is more logical and consistent than the previous one. Unless your son is a goalie—and I assume he’s not—they’re unlikely to play certain kids more than others without reason. In that regard, they tend to be relatively fair.
This is well done, and well thought out.
I would add FT coach also cares about development over winning, which works for some and not for others.
WML have gotten better for sure.
If you are genuinely worried you need to talk to knowledgeable parents you know - who’ve also been there before, have had an older kid go through it, not those going through your same journey for the first time. Lots of kids from those teams dropped to A this year too, who would also have good insight

No one cares about ST. make your own thread and talk there. coach made no big moves. you’ll finish where you did last season. Move on

An uncontrolled outburst of anger, combined with an attempt to belittle and insult a child you don’t even know, only shows your immaturity as a person. Maybe you just proved why kids from your team left for AA and AAA, and only those who couldn’t secure a spot in MNS had to stay behind.

If, in your eyes, my kid is Select or house league level in your eyes, it ok, I can take it. Would you be bold enough to share your son’s number so we can all see what exactly we’re supposed to aspire to. I’m sure he’s a great player and that you’re proud of him. Since he remained on the team, he must be one of the stronger players now that the weaker ones have moved on as you said earlier.
