One of my kids is now playing Jr A hockey. He was drafted and fighting to make the cut with his OHL team.
He played Summer hockey just like the kids you mentioned with a few other sports but hockey was always the main focus.
I can tell you this, I can’t think of many drafted kids that did not play spring/summer hockey. It was a year round sport for them with maybe 4 weeks off.
The sport has changed, get use to it.

Why must mediocre (at best) parents tire their kids out by playing hockey every single weekend and travelling to do so chasing that dream for them ?
