Top G teams are recruiters. Other teams develop then the top teams pick up those kids.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 12:21 pmGuest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 4:19 pm The OMHA is expected to continue to reduce teams in the eastern some making it extremely competitive.
Reducing the teams doesn't make it more competitive. The good players will always leave because of lack of development. Parents will get tired of driving their 8 year old over an hour to practice/play/develop 6 days a week until they are 16.
If the organizations invested the crazy amount of money they get into proper development programs they would be more successful and hired coaches that can teach they can get better.
Top G teams are driven to develop and win, OMHA teams protect their friends kid.
OMHA to become very Competitive

Haven't heard about NCP folding, but there was some talk last season in the rumor mill about APR and WW mergingGuest wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 11:56 am Why is NCP still around? Shouldn’t they be gone as well?

NCP is a huge geographical zone kids travel upwards of 175 km or hour and a half drive time they pull from 12 local clubs not sure where the kids would play if they folded would not seem right.

Re: OMHA to become very Competitive
curious as to how you define development. lots of dough spent on in-season skills people with arguably minimal "ROI". so how does the game get better at any level for these kids without more huge $$, like $200+ per hour?
Re: OMHA to become very Competitive
That’ll never happen. WW sees the most registrations of any club in Durham.
Re: OMHA to become very Competitive
Grey Bruce folding after next year as well. Kids probably filter through to Huron Perth, Halton, Guelph and Barrie.
Southern tier and Niagera are merged.
Credit river folds players go back to Orangville and Caledon A

Re: OMHA to become very Competitive
Unless u sit on the OMHA competition committee you don’t have a clue what’s going on. COW was the fourth best ETA association last year with a growing population of hockey players. They will continue to get better. They sent 4/8 teams to OMHA last year. Their track record over the next few years will prove that this comment is false.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 11:08 am Central Ontario is two more seasons. At the time COW leaves Kingston will be joining the HEO (Ottawa league).

Should just open the borders. Problem solved.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 4:19 pm The OMHA is expected to continue to reduce teams in the eastern some making it extremely competitive.
Re: OMHA to become very Competitive
I’ve seen the OMHA and GTHL models and think the OMHA can do better. What they should do at the AAA level is get the east down to 10 teams (at 11 now). The top 2 east teams in the OMHA AA championships would face the bottom 2 east AAA teams in a tournament to decide who gets the final 2 east AAA spots for the following year. The same would be done for the west. If an organization already has a AAA team, well they are doing something right and should be rewarded for their development.
An alternative is to have that relegation tournament at the midpoint of the season or at the end of the regular season. This would mean you need to align those leagues for balanced schedules or end dates, but does add an element to not have people flock to a team just to get that extra letter or get all their friends to join who might not make them competitive.
With this, the borders should be opened up at AAA, AA and A, but there should no longer be NRP’s. Set the import rule to 3 players per team for all levels to be clear and consistent and not allow all the best players to join the same team.
The goal is to be competitive at all levels and for organizations and the league to work on development. You have a lot less unhappy players/parents when you are competitive and makes it harder to argue if they deserve to be there or not when you have to prove it.
What this also does is only means 1 more team goes and then it’s up to the organizations themselves to build a program that deserves to stay. From what I have heard, going down to 8 teams a side (5 teams gone) will create a lot of fighting and won’t be easy. Just look at the COW situation and how hard it was and then think about the other organizations that will be on the chopping block. Likely will be much worse.
