You just described the Marlies U10, U11, U12, U13, U14 teams perfectlyGuest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 12:19 pmThis happens. Team/Org success can vary a lot from birth year to birth year. Who the coach is has a lot to do with it. I've seen coaches/'leaders' at reputable orgs think they don't have to do anything and just sail by on the org reputation. A lot of orgs have gone downhill with that attitude.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:45 am The Toronto Marlboros don’t carry the same shine as they once had.
What happened to the Marlies

Good in a shitty league don’t count cowboyGuest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 12:32 pmI can read, I said ok then, so split up it's like 15k a year.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 10:27 amFirst of all, it’s more like 40k that they split amongst the bench staff, not 15.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:56 amOk so just because they are paid 15k a year or something after it's divided they shouldnt be able to have their kids play there? Im wondering just how bad the kids are. I've heard people say oh that coaches kid is terrible, shouldnt be on the team. Or that coaches friends kid is terrible - he shouldnt be on the team but the reality is that the kid is not that bad.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 8:58 am07s won in U16 2 years ago. Might want to fact check this statement because I bet there are other teams that won as well.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 5:31 am Except the Marlies parent coaches ARE PAID
Every one of our coaching staffs between U10 and U14 get anywhere between 30k and 40k a year to divide among the HC and assistants. The org did not win a championship in any age group last year and our U14 team was the last to win one that was 2 years ago.
The executive needs to make some sweeping changes as morale and the culture is at an unprecedented dented low.
I think hockey has become more watered down everywhere but it's not because of any coaches kids. I was just looking at the top teams in the US - and a few of them all have coaches kids on them and somehow they are making it work. The fact of the matter is that is a coach has a kid on the team they will be more invested.
Second, the coaches kids on the U14, U13, and U12 teams are the worst players on the team, and it’s not even close. Every one of them, and anybody would tell you that. So it’s not a case of them not being that bad, these kids are really bad.
Combine that with finishing anywhere between 3rd and 5th place and it’s a no brainer that the organization needs to raise its standards.
I guess ya'll are getting screwed then where you are. On the top teams in our area the coaches kids are GOOD.

Give me a break. If you're really good, the league doesn't matter. Another stupid hockey parent.

It’s easy to look good in a bad league. They have a point.
Re: What happened to the Marlies
Having coached there for 17 years and no longer do....greed, entitled, not with the changing times, and here's the kicker...... complacency.

Times have changed. People are busy with full time jobs, kids. If no one wants to make these paid jobs (and really who wants to coach youth hockey as a career on its own?) then this is what we get.

Re: What happened to the Marlies
If the coach is smart he will find good/better teams to play outside the league then. Many teams are independent these days.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 3:47 pm Having coached there for 17 years and no longer do....greed, entitled, not with the changing times, and here's the kicker...... complacency.
Re: What happened to the Marlies
Why do they keep bringing in parent coaches? Why not bring in qualified coaches?
Re: What happened to the Marlies
Our company is a Marlboros corporate sponsor and we’ve already made the decision that we won’t be sponsoring next year. Without going into detail we became aware of some reprehensible conduct taking place on the U12 and U14 teams and we cannot continue to endorse the organization in its current state.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 5:09 pmReputation at an all time low tooGuest wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 2:20 amExcept the Marlies parent coaches ARE PAIDGuest wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 4:53 pmI assume the people working/coaching for the org are volunteers...volunteering their time so yes they bring their shitty kids with them as part of the deal. Reputation at an all time low is an accurate statement.
