Hi everyone,
my kid is on a AA GTHL team and they are not doing well and the environment has become so toxic I'd like to pull him off the team and go to another team, we've found a team already, but wasn't even sure if this can be done. Anyone have experience with this? Any chance of getting a partial refund?

I’ve heard of people switching teams mid-season for various reasons, and it is possible, especially at the AA level, but you would likely need to get a release from the current team. If you already have another team lined up, that’s great! As for a refund, it really depends on the team’s budget and policies, so it could vary. If the issue is with the coach or the players, you may need to address it with the GM or whoever handles the financials. If you’re planning on leaving regardless, I’d suggest talking to them sooner rather than later, as they may be slow to process a refund. Best of luck!

I had a similar experience when I left a toxic AAA team. The coach was a total joke, he claimed he played pro but couldn't even skate properly. The team was losing every game, and it was just miserable to be there. So, I walked up to him, told him his team was a disaster, and that I was going to get him fired. Eventually, my family did get him and his son removed from the team. As I walked out around Christmas time, I grabbed some mistletoe, held it up to my behind, and told him to 'kiss it.' It was the perfect way to end that chapter!

No refunds because it won’t be fair to the other kids you can get a release likely but no chance on refunds..

Want me to talk to the coaches on your behalf? Don’t let them bully you or give you any attitude. I’ll go with you as back up.

The final date for a team to release a player is November 15th so you better ask asap.
They may say no or they could say yes but you won’t get any
Money back.

Honestly, you deserve a refund, especially if the team environment is toxic. I understand you haven’t provided specific details about the toxicity, whether it's the coaching, the player dynamics, or the league itself, but if the situation is as you describe, you should not be subjected to that. It’s not what you signed up for, and it’s certainly not healthy for your child’s mental well-being. If you can provide examples of the toxic behavior, you have every right to request your money back. If the organization refuses, I would consider taking the issue to the media to ensure your voice is heard.
