All I read on these forums is how bad every association is.

Are there any that are good and well run?

My thing is that if you want to enact change, you need to start by volunteering, attending AGMs, and be part of the decision making process.

Sitting back and saying it's crap is not going to change it.

With open borders, you now can show these poorly run organizations how bad they are by going elsewhere.

And here we both are on the same site talking the same shift.

Is it really that bad? Teams are in the upper half of their divisions, costs low, great coaches, great facilities, fantastic young board. Thus, it will fix the few problem teams

A well run organization is not measured by wins and losses which a lot of people seem to forget.

What is really comes down to is having the right coaches in place. Ones that make players and parents want to come to the rink in the dead of winter during a 7 game losing streak. Ones that will develop players from the top to bottom of the roster. With open borders, that is what will attract people from outside the area.

At the end of the day, it's all about the kids having fun and getting better. You will have bad years or bad birth years but organizations should not be judged by wins and loses alone.

Exactly! I am a parent from a team in this organization, and we came from a different league with the promise of a great coach, and it did not go well, there was a change and we had a fantastic non parent come in and change everything for the better, although our record doesn't show the vast improvement this gentleman has made. The coach let our boys know yesterday at the end of practice that he was not chosen for next years team, the boys were absolutely crushed, and there is a rumor that we are going to have a complete staff from a BB centre, I know for our son, we will be looking elsewhere, and that seems to be the common talk amongst our parent group. We are a very unhappy group, but the coach told the boys, that he is not giving up on them and that He still planned to push them towards getting to the OMHA tournament, To me that is the ultimate sign of a great coach, to be knocked down and not let anything affect his plan for our boys! Thank you Coach, our family will be forever grateful to you for you time, effort and passion, And I strongly believe that none of our boys will ever forget how positively you impacted each and everyone of them, Best of luck to you

Have to agree! Got to be the worst run organization around, New board is just an extension of the old boys club! Nothing ever changes in this association, so glad for open boarders, only a couple years left in hockey for my son, Greatful that we can get away from this toxic association

Are you crazy - U10, U11, U12... all pretty much dead last in A and AA. I happened to be at the Gale Centre and saw a U10AA game. Boys couldnt even do crossovers or skate backwards. That organization will have to make some big changes - maybe take smaller rosters to start and only take AA/A level kids for a few years to build up some wins.

The rumour is that Niagara Falls has already stated that it is fully open with no restrictions on imports. For a city as big as Niagara falls, they should definitely be more competitive than they have been. Also, you're right, from the top down not a single AA/A team (U18-U10) had a winning record. Time for some big changes in that association, hopefully they do the right thing and pick the best kids for each team and are able recruit AA/A level kids from other organizations.

I can hear the pitch now, from the coach to the potential A/AA recruit! "come to our bottom feeder team, we are going to be better with you on our team!"
