That's what is happening with at least one team this year.

Yup and that would be Nepean.

Pembroke had a "goalie coach" last year. Why? Son was on team. And? Brought in kid he was "advising" to play goal. Son was only kid from Pembroke to get a commitment to D3.

Is there a point in there somewhere?

Why would you go D3? meh hockey, meh school, BIG $$$$$, and the dream is over. Please try to sell me on why D3 is any way shape of form something to strive for? The CC is definitely behind since Covid in it's worth towards moving to D1. They have LOTS of work to do to be relevant. Essentially it's become a stepping stone for 16-17 year olds to go to something better. Staying in the CC until you age out-that makes no sense and merely puts a kids life on hold for ZERO prospects.

So true! I'm amazed at how many kids still chase it in these leagues that have little prospect of moving forward. Major Jr., well that's top of the food chain, it's free and you get some Canadian university cost paid for- makes sense. The BCHL, free and best chance for D1. AJHL, MJHL and SJHL, for rhe most part free, but little prospect of D1. After that, the Jr.A level, in all other leagues makes NO sense for players older than 18.

Waste of time and money.

Pre-covid, it wasn't as bad. Now, it is too diluted. Every kid has an advisor and unless you are elite, you have to pay to play and get playing time. Kids who don't have the funds, have no chance. Go to school locally and save your money. There are kids playing D3 and even D1 that are paying at least $20k US, are at mediocre schools or programs, and have no social life outside of their hockey clique, and hardly even play!. Junior is a money pit. These kids would be better off saving their money for their future. These comments don't apply to the kids with deep pockets.

Identify the costs

Identify the propects of further advancement.

Identify the timeline and what the player needs to sacrifice during that time.

Sell me the positives but don't hide the negatives.

Crickets. Not surprised as the benefits just aren't there. The cost though, and the sacrifice of putting school/Life on hold, those are real and are high. 19-20 year olds still playing in these leagues, unless they already have D1 "big" offers, they are wasting their time. Frankly they hurt the league and development of the younger players who still have a chance. The leagues have become all about winning, but really offer very little prospects of further advancement. D3 is not advancement, and costs a ton!

Prove me wrong

Agree with everything except some D3 programs are really good and actually better than the bottom 3rd of D1. However, the quality of education at many D3 schools is suspect. Not worth the cost. Also, go to a D3 "tryout", 80-90 players will be there and guess what? Even if you commit, and you still win a spot and are highly unlikely to play much for 2years. D1 kids are tagged by the time they are 16-17 at the latest. The number of kids who get discovered at 18 for a D1 commitment is very very unlikely. The junior leagues don't care about getting the kids to the next level unless it is USHL, oR NAHL or BCHL and maybe 5-6 NCDC teams

D3 is D3 for a reason, it's not as good. Trying to make a comparison with unprovable claims is futile.
