I think it will be done for the next season. They moved fast on making U9 full ice, so this could move fast as well. There isnt any IT adjustment that needs to be made. Just announce and its done!
I hope so... then these parents that want out so bad on some of the OMHA teams quickly realize because your kid was on a the top line in the OMHA and then quickly realize they are 3rd liner in the G
maybe some parents don't want out of the OMHA entirely, maybe they just want out of a certain organization or away from a certain coach.
Yup

It would be interesting to see how many teams would blow up in the OMHA if this were to happen... where is the main attraction?

I think every person/situation is different. That's the thing.

yes, over a couple years there will be teams that end up being the destination kids want to go to. AAA I think there is already "some" movement of players (OMHA) who get releases. But, not many. You will likely end up with stronger AAA teams because less kids will be pushed to AA that are good enough to be AAA because more teams will be able to take them in.

AA there is almost zero movement - so I think what you will see is the situations where there are legitimate "people" issues both between coaches and parents where kids will get to go to a neighboring team and play AA hockey instead of the current team cutting them because they don't like them or their parents - or parents not sending their kids to tryouts because they don't like the coach

this keeps flowing downwards. This would undoubtedly help with the current issue of people saying AAA is watered down. Over a couple years you will see this self-correct because the kids who should be playing AAA will more likely be playing AAA - but spread out to other teams. and as a secondary effect you have less kids being held hostage by teams who refuse to release them.

You will ALWAYS have the have's vs the have not's - thats just how sports work. But you would probably have less kids automatically going to the G when they are a top kid, because there will be equally as good of teams in OMHA.

Maybe? But, the whole system needs to change for OMHA If you are going to allow that.

The kids are going to goto the G either way, but you can't screw over OMHA in the meantime. I'd suggest based on players home address in OMHA kids should be able to play for any one of the three closest teams by geography.

This fixes the issue of teams having kids from 100km away to form super teams. But it allows kids to get away from situations they don't want to be in. Plus it improves AAA quality because there will be more kids that SHOULD be in AAA instead of them getting pushed down to AA because of a bad situation.

this is a pretty well thought out idea...I'd second this motion for sure.

Yeah, unfortunately its too reasonable so it won't happen.

GTHL - Remains Open boarders if you live in Toronto + 4 OMHA imports
OMHA - Players can play for their three closest Teams AAA, AA, A, BB - and can request a release to go to GTHL

Requesting the release is when organizations like Oakville Rangers will screw you over. These coaches/dads/VPs hold a grudge and come after 10 year olds.
