Yeah because the USA economy is reliant on the Canadian minor hockey teams.

Zero cares.

In terms of because of the dollar what happens if the CND becomes stronger by the time your tournament rolls around ?

I'd have no problem going to a well run US tournament if the dollar was better.

I also hate going to tournaments and playing the same teams you play all year.

I understand the political angle and I'm not happy about the tariffs, but that wouldn't factor into my decision to go to a hockey tournament.

PS when the $ was a lot better everyone enjoyed the weekend...shopping, cheap booze/beer, a few late nights, lots of laughs and different competition.....for all the boycotting people take a look where most of the stuff you buy, watch on TV and follow are from....either from the US or made by some 12 yr old in some Asia country...maybe ease off on the smugness gas pedal
No, most are boycotting over politics. The exchange was just as bad this past season.

Canadians are such losers. You really think boycotting US tournaments will reverse things? Sure, if it helps you sleep better at night.

enjoy your local tournaments in butt f-cuk no where Alliston or Peterborough.

We should have ALWAYS been supporting other Canadians and the government should ALWAYS be looking to create new Canadian jobs and industry.

However, minor hockey tournaments are a stupid way to protest. I would 100% go if it didn't cost twice as much to do it.

Like the idea of boycotting in theory but in practice you have to admit that tournaments in the states are just more fun. Entirely different teams and it feels like you're really away. We only did one travel tournament last season, in Ottawa, and to be frank it sucked. Kids and parents were all disappointed after a few years in the US. Missed going over the border, bad exchange or not.

Happy to fight back against tariffs, but it's not our kids faults and there's only so many seasons to make the great memories that come with away tournaments. Plus, there's the satisfaction of heading down and winning.

Quite frankly you seem to be the bigger loser. We are in a unique time with Tariffs. It is time to show our kids that it will take a unique effort by everyone to win this war. Every dollar counts! Shopping trips, vacations, youth tournaments, goods from USA .. it all adds up. Don't be selfish and say it's ok for me and my kid to experience whatever in the USA .. not the time.

Politics aside, Canadian Teams going to USA tournaments is a very tough sell.

Here are the issues I have faced:
-Insurance, our team insurance through our association does not expand outside of Canada
-Exchange rate
-Passports, not everyone has one, are expensive when you need to get them for multiple family members
-Divisions and levels don't always align with HC

I try to plan on 2 local tournaments and 1 over night tournament every year. It is a lot of extra work to book USA tournaments and most don't want the hassle of going.

But the biggest factor in not going is the exchange rate. Paying an extra 40-50% is not ideal for most of my families.

I also think there should be a premium (tariff) on US teams coming to play in Canada. They should be charged 25% more for registration
