Yes most try outs are about $40 per skate

Since most teams are already picked before try outs the answer is not really. Some teams might have 1 or 2 spots if someone exceptional comes out and there's always those kids that commit to 2 or 3 teams so those spots open up however most teams have players they have not committed to yet that will sot in

Any tips on how to standout during tryouts? I know there will be many kids trying to make AAA teams and usually skill level is pretty much the same, what can my kid to get coaches eyes on him?

My kid isn’t physical at all. He is actually the opposite and tries to avoid any physical play. The coach will never know this during a tryout though, so I think he has a good chance!

Teams should be allowed to post “open spots” before tryouts.. no point in showing up if there are no spots

Hey folks, I saw this come up before but didn’t really see much response, so I figured I’d try again, with tryout season in full swing, I’ve got a serious question. Are we actually supposed to be tipping the coaches now? Like, is this a thing? My son’s been trying out for AAA for the past few years with no luck and someone mentioned slipping the coach a little thank you could help. Am I missing something here? Should I be bringing an envelope or a gift card next time? Just trying to understand how this all really works these days.

Nope, not required. I've never heard of anyone making a team because of a tim hortons gift card.
