It seems like if it wasn't posted on instagram, it never happened and if you're not getting mentioned on Instagram, you have a problem. I am disgusted with these hockey tournament organizers who are constantly putting up posts of the 'BEST 2014's out there' and the 'BEST 2013's in NORTH AMERICA'. I am noticing a particular group that is doing this that seemed to just look at the brick tournament stats, found the top point scorers and sent out a bunch of invites to create some 'elite' camp. REALLY? that's your job? That's how you find 'talent'? Do you think those players will still be playing the same way this June when the camp takes place??
Parents of course fall right into this. Oh sure I'll pay $620 bucks plus a flight and hotel stay so my 10/11 year old can attend.
I guess anyone who doesn't get the invite to these events should just find a new sport to play? I mean only the 'best' 10 year olds should feel special. Anyone who is worth inviting at 10 should realize how special they are. Everyone else can eat sh*t. I truly see these types of event ruining youth hockey. They cause animosity amongst parents, coaches, make people feel bad, make other people like their kid is going to the NHL. It seems to get worse and worse every year.
It would be nice if these types of invites/selections were kept private. I mean does anyone ever think about how the kids that don't get the invites to these events might feel? Nah.
If a kid can't deal with not getting invited to a spring/summer hockey tournament that has zero bearing on their future development, what the F are they going to do when a coach rips into them for not doing the right thing or benches them?
I would love to know why everyone is so F'ing soft
This game is a marathon, not a sprint. Its about hard work, getting your ass kicked and getting back up to do it all over again. Always you vs you stop caring what everyone else is doing
it's more so the parents who can't handle it...not the kids. The kids have no idea what they are invited or not most of the time.
I will say the posting on social and on the internet does rub it in more. Not even just on what teams you made...but even things with goals, points. This is something that people didn't deal with 10 or so years ago. You got invited to games, you went, you did your thing and it was over. Now it seems like people have to post every accomplishment on social or it didn't happen. Then you have the teams social pages posting about it, etc.
You can say as much as you want that people are weak but so much is shoved in people's faces thanks to the internet and it's not just hockey. Not every goal or number of assists needs to be posted, but they are...of course the parents who have kids who do well are happy to see this...but it can be damaging and demoralizing to the kids and parents who try just as hard and don't get the recognition...especially when they're 10 or 11. Sure, some kids will get scholarships or drafted...but we don't need to see every bit of someone's success or journey posted on the internet but we do.
So what's next? Tell your kid to walk around with a blindfold on so he doesn't see little Tommy's dad's new BMW or Mercedes because you drive a Ford?

The Internet is for big boys.
that is probably the best thing to do ....this site is an example of things to stay off of.

People who are asshats are easy to figure out - just because someone posts their kids highlights or puts a video of a great goal online doesn't mean they are jerks.
The best coaches who actually care about development say spring hockey is a waste of time and money. The kids should be working on their athletic ability and training in a joyful environment. Having 12 months of pressure hockey, where they get yelled at for making mistakes does not allow them to be creative and try new things.
The people that promote these things are usually 300-400 lbers, who are not able to skate, so they need to make money off you by offering "this once in a lifetime" opportunity where scouts will be there at a 12 year old tournament in Italy.
Relax parents, do not have FOMO, Find a coach you trust and get a game plan to develop his skills. In 1 practice you will get more "reps" in than an entire weekend of spring hockey.
Remember your kid gets 13-15 minutes of ice time per game and the puck is on his stick for a maximum of 1 minute. How can you develop technical skills if that is not the focus.
Mix in a few tournaments but focus on developing athletic ability and hockey skills. TIME UNDER TENSION principle. thats how you develop a hockey player. Don't listen to these greasy obese idiots that are fleecing you with instagram rankings.

Settle down.
I'm sure that a lot of it comes down to jealous. They were never good when they were a kid and are trying to live some sort of fantasy through their kid but their kid is playing local league and has been cut 5 times from the select team.
Just like everything else, don't like it, don't look at it but seems like all you do is care about other people's kids and wish your little Johnny could do what their kids do cuz lord knows you'd have them on IG and in every "elite" summer tournament if you kid had one ounce of talet.

The question is why do the parents feel the need to post a video of every goal. I see some parents do this anytime the kid scores a goal, like they are out to prove something. It always comes back to oh, well you must be jealous. Not really. My kid scores goals also and I would feel pretty silly posting every goal on social media account....of a 9 or 10 year old for that matter. We get it, people are happy for their kids and proud of their kids but i question someone who feels the need to post every hockey highlight for all to see.

From what I see youth hockey moves fast, perhaps too fast. Some kids get a head start and are simply more talented than others. I've seen coaches of high end teams be called psycho or crazy and that all kids catch up to each other in high school. I don't think this is true, but some people do seem to put all their eggs in one basket with the kids at a very young age when no one knows what the future holds. This past year i saw a lot of people be disappointed at how their 10 year old developed and in the grand scheme of life that is pretty ridiculous.
