There were a number of 07/08 USA players drafted and a few Canadian 07/08 Junior A/B players drafted in the 2025 draft.

What makes them eligible to be drafted for the 2025 draft being a few years older while players the same age or even younger where selected in the u18 draft.

It's because players with OHL experience can now go to NCAA. So players who would not have considered OHL before were taken because they can still play NCAA down the road.
Be weary parents and players. You can not just jump into a high end D1 school if your education is not up to par. Take that from me and my experience, you will be directed to lower D1 schools and maybe D3.
Define “ up to par”. Specific grade range? Which schools etc?
How long is piece of string. If your kid sucks at hockey and is dumb at school, bring your expectations down

Drafting kids without seeing them play. Lets Get Trump involved in hockey he will fix it. Look after your Own !!drafting USA players that will never play. Give your head a shake.
Its about parents facing the harsh reality that they wasted so much time and money.
Here is bad optics, first round pics not reporting to camp, plenty of Americans not signing contract yet, waiting for USHL draft, and now scouts leaving OHL clubs in droves. is this a sign of things to come or rumor? It does emulate unhappiness and discourse in the process.

"Player Eligibility
North American players born in 2009 and non-overage players that were not registered with an Ontario based U16 AAA team from protected OHL territories are eligible for selection in the 15 rounds of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection."

Guest wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 3:49 pm With the turmoil of having tryouts in spring will any of the drafted players get cut from u18aaa teams or are they guaranteed a spot?
Drafted players are already hand picked and on teams! Only first rounder will sign or go to jr.
If they leave the spots will be replaced with back ups ! Most top aaa teams are made !
What about the bottom drafted players where the non drafts are better?
Bottom drafts are good thanks
If they were better , they would be drafted !
most teams are made all the drafted kids are set !
