AAA is open, but I can't see a lot of parents driving over an hour for practices and games. It is not worth it.
Anyone driving over an hour to play hockey needs some serious help.
You’d be surprised. There are many such confused parents planning to drive over an hour to play in the G. They assume that the G will ensure their kid magically becomes a superstar.

No, they are driving to the g for better coaches, better competition and better kids to play with
So do you really think that the G has all better coaches. Buddy you are so delusional. It seems you are one of those parents. I’m sure there are other centers on your 1.5 hour drive to the G.
lol and my kid and his team would wipe the floor with all of them…
The G doesn't necessarily have better coaches but people will move over for something shiny. OHF will have it cuboards bare this year as people will move and they don't run/recruit the way the G does.

I’d happily go anywhere that has a non-parent coach.

💯! More Associations.need to find GOOD non parent coaches, one of the biggest problems in minor hockey, Parent coaches who pick their friends and not the best team, IMO, if you a parent coach, the association should be part of assessing players and choosing teams!

Aside from picking their friends, they become with the gamesheet stats and manipulate players to benefit who they want to look better.

There are non parent coaches that are as bad as parent coaches. A lot of them have hockey schools and etc , so if you take their school you play and if you don’t have a seat on the bench.
There has to be a board group that reviews coaches during the year and react to any problems that arise.
Never will happen.

You would have to start paying association members then. Slippery slope then everyone will want it as a paid position and who hires the association people? More people tou would have to pay.

The easy fix to that is, if a non-parent coach has a hockey "school" he cannot teach/train and children in the age group that he coaches in. If he doesn't agree to that, then clearly he's in it for the money and shouldn't be selected as a coach.

There definitely needs to be more accountability on coaches. Way too many problems and people are slowly stepping away from hockey.
