my kid is on a AA GTHL team and they are not doing well and the environment has become so toxic I'd like to pull him off the team and go to another team, we've found a team already, but wasn't even sure if this can be done. Anyone have experience with this? Any chance of getting a partial refund?

That said we had a family friend create a super sad Gofundme campaign which yielded close to $55,000 which should see us through to U18.

A GoFundme because you lost fees for hockey ?? 😂 if you had enough money to pay for hockey, then that GoFundmewas not appropriate, how embarrassing for you. Guess you are one of the hockey dads who doesn’t work?

Seriously, is the coach a looney?
if its U12 Rattlers, then no - it's this kid's parents, trying to get off. They tried their best to control many aspects of the team and finally, everyone said, enough is enough

It's important for us to recognize when coaching tactics cross the line from motivating to overly aggressive. While we don't need to use extreme terms, it's clear that some coaches could benefit from a refresher on how to lead with respect and positivity. So, let's start by acknowledging the issue, quietly letting it slide only allows it to continue. If you see something concerning, stop it in its tracks. Be vocal about it! Talk to other parents, other coaches, or go higher up in the league. Don’t be afraid to reach out to the GTHL or even approach the coach’s employer if needed. Sometimes, a little discomfort or embarrassment can go a long way in making a positive change. If speaking up helps protect a whole group of kids from harmful coaching tactics, then it’s more than worth it

The bottom line is we must always advocate for our kids. They deserve a supportive, encouraging environment, not one based on fear or intimidation.

Just a guess here but maybe its the 2009 North York Nights. I was at Rinx yesterday for one of my kids practices and I witnessed the most abusive display of behavior towards 15 year old kids that I have ever seen. I've been around hockey at the AA and AAA level for 5 years and played myself at a high level.

Coach was from 3 ZONE HOCKEY or at least that is what his jacket said he was wearing. The language he used while being red faced and spitting yelling at kids 3 inches from their cage/helmet was like nothing I had ever seen before. Looked it up on Google and its just some guys house in Whitby

Looked up their team and they are 1-7-0 or something to that effect.

I asked the parent group what age and team it was and they confirmed it, sadly they seem completely ok with the treatment of their kids.

I really wish hockey in the GTHL (Greater Toronto Hockey League) was more diverse. It's something that’s been on my mind a lot lately because when I go to these games, it feels like there’s a lack of representation. I don’t see enough ethnic diversity on the ice, and honestly, it’s kind of concerning. It seems like the majority of players are from European backgrounds, and while that's great, hockey should be a sport where everyone from every community feels welcome. We need to do something to change that and make sure that kids from all different backgrounds are getting the same opportunities to play and excel in the game.
