Some parents put their kid in net because their kid is not a strong skater, but goalies should be some of the best on team in relation to balance, mobility. Etc.

The house leagues / local leagues can't keep goalie because they are constantly being plucked for rep teams.

Goalies should be offered a deep discount to sign up. Would help offset some of the costs you need for the equipment.

HC needs a First Shift for goalies.

Yes, lots of teams do. But, I'm sure some teams don't.

My kids U8 and U9 teams both have given us a goalie budget for goalie training all season. So, essentially we pay $2k less than other players on the team and the expectation is we take that money and spend it on goalie training. Which we do. That amount usually gets us through most of the season going weekly.

Other teams, instead of giving you the money will pay for you to goto whatever goalie training place they pick out for you, once a week or once every other week.

Some teams will bring in a goalie trainer for your practices weekly, etc.

I've heard of a handful of teams where the goalie plays for free for the season, which is great, but I don't know how common it is.


Very few teams do nothing at this point. If they do nothing, it's not a good look and it's honestly a bad idea. You need to invest in your goalie.

LOL Sounds like another reason why OHF and HC suck... Sorry thats happening. If you have a goalie kid, move them to KSL - better opportunities for things like this. Also, the full size net from a young age is great development.
