Can I get off a team mid right now?
Re: Can I get off a team mid right now?
To build on that, I would also suggest reaching out to your local Member of Parliament (MP) and explaining the situation. You signed your child up for this extracurricular activity with the expectation of a positive experience, and after giving it time to improve, it’s clear that the environment hasn’t changed. For the sake of your child's mental health, you are forced to leave the team. You deserve to be refunded because what you signed up for is not the product being delivered. You didn't agree to expose your child to a toxic atmosphere. If they refuse to give you your money back, I would pursue every avenue, including going public and involving the media. If necessary, I’ll personally advocate for you, I've fought for people's rights before, and I’ll take this all the way to Parliament if I have to. I’ll stand by you in getting this resolved.

Honestly, at this point, I’d consider camping out in front of GTHL’s headquarters if that’s what it takes. No spot there? No problem, I’ll pitch a tent outside the president’s house. I got your back, I’ll help with tents, signs, whatever you need. Then we hit up the local media. Trust me, they’ll eat this up. GTHL’s known for being toxic, so once they catch wind of this, they’ll be all over it. You can’t just let this slide, and we’re not backing down until you get your money back. Let’s make some noise, get the media involved, and turn up the heat!

A kid joined my son's team about a month ago, similar situation.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:33 pm Hi everyone,
my kid is on a AA GTHL team and they are not doing well and the environment has become so toxic I'd like to pull him off the team and go to another team, we've found a team already, but wasn't even sure if this can be done. Anyone have experience with this? Any chance of getting a partial refund?
You need to go to the coach and association president, ask for a release ASAP, give your reasons why, and stop going to practices and games.
As far as 'already having a new team lined up,' be cautious because there could be tampering accusations if you're active with the other team while carded by current team. Definitely don't let your kid skate on their ice or go to any team functions.
I'd also say keep the emotions out of it. Say it's the best decision for my kid, and nothing else.
You're not going to get $$ but you will (hopefully) get a release.

Also, do not contribute to the teams Christmas present for the coach or the assistant coaches since you’re leaving I don’t think there’s any point.
Re: Can I get off a team mid right now?
Be fair .. don't ask for the full refund. I would ask for like 65% back .. 1/3 of season played, 2/3 remaining .. take 65% back as a refund with both association fees and team fees. You are on the hook for swag/equipment but maybe able to sell next spring for new players going to association/team.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 9:12 amA kid joined my son's team about a month ago, similar situation.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 9:33 pm Hi everyone,

I totally get wanting to get some of your money back, it’s not too much to ask, especially given how toxic the team was. It might be tricky to get the full refund, but you have a solid case.
Make sure to emphasize that your kid was unhappy, and you gave the team the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, it’s just not something they can continue with. If you’re looking into therapy, you can ask the doctor for a note about how the stress has affected your kid, just explain the sleeplessness and how it’s been affecting school too. It’ll probably cost you about $20 for the letter, but it’ll help your case a lot. With that, you should have no problem getting some of your money back.

Re: Can I get off a team mid right now?
We were in exactly the same situation and no refund of our $5,500 fee
That said we had a family friend create a super sad Gofundme campaign which yielded close to $55,000 which should see us through to U18.
