Just absolute disaster with the signing it seems. Also just found out they turned away a Tier 1 Klevr kid that was a top player on their team that won the championship that is looking to return home to play in Markham. What is happening with this team. Actually had decent players coming out to tryout and getting turned away.

Tough situation. The guy got the team last minute, had to get caught up quick. Got thrown under the bus by spiteful ND AA team worried about losing their kids. Got suspended 15 games and big fine.

I guess you can give the guy a little credit for not de-committing to a bunch of kids when better kids are knocking at your door as their second choice. In retrospect, as a "second choice team" it would have been smart for them to not commit to so many kids early on and wait for other teams scraps. Its unfortunate that there is even such thing as a "second choice team" but, they exist.

North Shore, Markham, North Central being the main ones this year. The only kids they were going to get were kids that didn't make the better teams. Not sure that Markham Waxers would ever have a good team with who they are competing with. Anyone north would want to go with YSE first, anyone else would likely want to go GTHL first. Anyone East would likely go APR or COW first.

Oakville heard the team is picked and halton still has spots. Oakville has decent md1 players and a couple of great klevr kid and a good goalie. Halton has an amazing core of klevr kids and a good goalie also, halton still has 2 more tryouts this week and Oakville has 1. Where should I try to get my kid on?

Where did most of YSE come from? All from Saints ?

I have also been to multiple skates for both teams. In my opinion Oakville coach seemed like he didn't want to be there. Like any questions asked were a bother. Dressing room seemed all business, kids were quiet and scared looking. Halton skates, coach was in the stands evaluating, skate ran by very young adults. But the kids themselves seemed to be having fun, joking, and laughing

Nope. Some saints, some cobras and a handful of Md players majority from the Aurora program.

It's too bad, they could've actually had a good team if they chose properly and not commit to some of the other players too early. The team signed 8 kids after the first tryout without any battles or game. Lucky for those players as their weakness showed in game setting the next day.

Sound like the coach doesn't have as much "experience" as 1 person previously stated. Wonder if the parents know the coach JW has a 15 game suspension?

The head coach is experienced but just doesn't have knowledge of 2016 players and didn't bother asking around to do background work on the players he signed and cut. One of the assistant coach he has parades around wearing a Klevr hat which is just not a good look in an OMHA team and event. Goes to show you the overall staffing team just didn't have good preparation going into this tryout.

From what I’ve heard, these Waxer tryouts are exactly as expected. JW IS LAZZZZYYYY. Didn’t prepare, doesn’t know to wait for game play to assess real talent, signing his buds rather than building a strong team, could go on and on, does not sound like his resume checks out or knows anything about AAA nowadays. Probably why he couldn’t kick it as a coach in ND. Went after Waxers, the low hanging fruit (that had no other applicants) cuz his ego was bruised and the typical dad that thinks his kid is AAA. There’s a reason why he’s in the position he is, always some truth behind the chatter, and now everyone has front row seats to the show.

Lots of merit to this. Don't think the coach was even present today to watch the tryout. Overall tryout process was sloppy. Long season ahead for these kids if tryout quality was any reflection of staffing.

AAA is supposed to be the best of the best, not some ok players and scrubs.

Just because you played hockey, doesn't mean you can coach hockey. Would you not find it alarming to be given the head coaching position of a AAA team at the last minute? Any real hockey mind would ask a lot of questions or pass on the position entirely.

The ND team had every right to be upset. It was clearly ruled by the OMHA that he was caught breaking the rules. If anything, the penalties weren't strong enough.

Don't know JW but based on how he has handled his scouting, tryout prep and signings, he is clearly out of his league. That entire team will be in for a subpar rude awakening. The coach will be a one and done. It's a shame the kids will suffer due to an inexperienced and unprepared Dad.

You are clearly a parent from North Durham coming here to talk shit. They are a pathetic group of parents and organization. They are spiteful of kids that left for other programs the last couple years, trashing them behind their backs. Then turn around and half of them are taking their younger kids to other Non-OMHA programs a couple years later.

They turned on JW because he wasn't "one of them" he was a normal guy in a group of gossiping boys who all play hockey with each other. North Durham is Uxbridge and Port Perry, but run by Uxbridge people who treat Port Perry folks like crap because they aren't in the inner circle. Now they have turned on each other, its hilarious watching it go down as an outsider. They have awful talent, will likely be one of the worst AA teams around, and have ruined any potential of any of the skilled kids coming back if they flunk out of AAA. It is the epitome of "small town hockey non-sense" that Open borders and the KSL has given an escape from.

Did JW try to poach kids from ND before he was allowed to? Probably. I don't know for a fact if he did or didn't, he doesn't even really know me.

I have proof of half of it, because my kid or kids of good friends all were committed to teams well in advance of when they were allowed to. So don't try to pin him with any BS that we don't ALL know is happening on EVERY SINGLE TEAM.

Should JW have played the waiting game and seen what the G and APR and YSE released to him first before committing to kids? Yeah, probably. But so should have NCP and North Shore. It was year one of open borders, he was given the team very last minute - I don't think that makes him a bad coach. Next year will likely be better.

North Shore has a whole team picked and there were probably 20 kids released from APR after one tryout that would ALL have been upgrades to what they took. Plus they have worse goalies than a local single A team out there. (one of the goalies being the coaches son).

JW aint no saint I am sure. But, the people here trying to trash him are likely scum from North Durham.
